Rabbit 1 (Lamp 1 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Fri 19th Sept 2014

Her weight was 2lb 6 1/2oz. Went to the Cattery with Alan, still warm night. All horse fields, Eve went  for a rabbit near a horse but as the horse got spooked so did Eve and she flew up into a tree. The stables security light then came on and lit up the fields and all the horses got spooked and Eve took off and flew into the distance. Found her with the Marshall receiver within 10 mins. Eve came straight to me for a chick leg. After that we headed to Burstip. Eve caught the only rabbit we saw.

Rabbit 2 (Lamp 2 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Sun 21st Sept 2014

Her weight was 2lb 5 1/2oz. Went to the golf coarse with Vanessa, still warm night. Had a couple of flights before we reached the pond, as we got there 4 ducks got up and Eve nailed one and landed in the water. By the time i got there Eve had let go and got to the bank but she was wet. She ignored 2 after that. We then saw a rabbit 20 meter away Eve gave it a chance and let it get to 40 meters before she took off and caught it at about 80 meters. Fed her the pluck and manned her when we got home.

Rabbit 3 (Lamp 3 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Wed 17th Sept 2014

Her weight was 2lb 5 1/2 oz. No wind, warm night. Went for a walk down the river. Had a few good flights. Eve caught one near the police station and one on the field next to the car, fed her the pluck from both.

Sat 27th Sept 2014

Her weight was 2lb 5 1/2oz. Went to the River with Vanessa, still warm night due on the grass. Eve had a lot of long flights but didn't manage to connect with any rabbits. She got wet quick with the due so it was good exercise. Manned her when we got home.

Rabbit 5 (Lamp 5 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Sun 28th Sept 2014

Her weight was 2lb 5 oz. Went to Fircloughs, another still warm night with slight fog. We only saw two rabbits, Eve caught the second one. As she grabbed it a fox came running in from the hedge, that's probably why we only saw two. Fed her the organs (pluck) and a front leg as we walked back to the car.

Rabbit 6 (Lamp 6 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Tue 30th Sept 2014

Her weight was 2lb 5 oz. Went to Carform with Vanessa. 17deg, slight breeze. Eve had a few short flights and was really out of breath I had to pick her up a couple of times and she was panting. Eve managed to get 2 but the fight took it out of her.

Rabbit 8 (Lamp 8 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Fri 3rd Oct 2014

Rabbit 10 (Lamp 10 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Sun 5th Oct 2014

Her weight was 2lb 4.5 oz. Went to Bumpy road with Vanessa, another warm night but windy. Saw a lot of rabbits but the grass is very high and they disappeared into it as soon as the lamp went on them. Eve was really panting when she caught the first one and took a while to step off for her reward. She caught two more but couldn't keep hold as if she didn't have the energy. I think she is under the weather as well as having low fitness levels. I fed her up on the 2nd rabbit Eve caught. It was a long flight and she kept hold off it as it dragged her 20 yard through the long grass. Eve will be stopping in the house for a few days while I do repairs on the aviary.

Rabbit 12 (Lamp 12 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Rabbit 15 (Lamp 15 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Sun 12th Oct 2014

Her weight was 2lb 5 oz. Went to Carform with Vanessa, 10deg no wind, cloud covered the moon. First rabbit she caught was a great chase Eve turned the rabbit 3 times and it was going in and out of cover. The second rabbit was squatting 30 yards away and Eve slammed into it, the rabbit didn't know what hit it. I wanted to finish on a good flight so we carried on and on and on. We had plenty of flights but Eve couldn't get to them before they disappeared. Just as we reached the car we saw one, Eve took off and after turning it a couple of times grabbed it on its back end. She only just had hold of it and the rabbit was dragging her about, before I got there the rabbit broke free. Eve chased it again but it made it to a hole. It would have been nice to finish on that and feed her up. Ended up feeding her up on one she caught earlier.

Rabbit 17 (Lamp 17 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Fri 17th Oct 2014

Her weight was 2lb 5 oz. Went to Ampy for a quick walk as it was absolutely pouring down. Eve grabbed the first rabbit she chased but the rabbit did a massive summersault and kicked Eve off, she re-chased but the rabbit made it to cover. Eve caught the 2nd rabbit which also did a summersault but this time the rabbit did it before Eve had got there and when the rabbit landed on all fours Eve slammed into it hard. We had 2 more flights before we got back to the car one was up an almost vertical hill, Eve had no chance being so wet and the last one made it to its warren.

Rabbit 18 (Lamp 18 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Sun 19th Oct 2014

Her weight was 2lb 4 3/4 oz. Vanessa dropped me off at Tomas's and I walked home about 3 mile. Very windy , dry spell but it had been raining all day very wet under foot. Had around 10 long flights, the rabbits were getting there heads down and taking off at full speed. Eve managed to get two. I thought she had missed at first but she was crashing into the cover and hitting them about a meter in, Gave her a good feed as we walked home then manned her in the house to dry her out.

Rabbit 20 (Lamp 20 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Wed 22nd Oct 2014

Her weight was 2lb 5 oz. Vanessa dropped me off at Tomas's and I walked home. Dry and slight wind. Had a couple of long flights then Eve caught 2 rabbits within 5mins so I fed Eve the back leg as we headed home.

Rabbit 22 (Lamp 22 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Fri 24th Oct 2014

Her weight was 2lb 51/2 oz. Went lamping with Phil and Chad. No wind at all very still night. Got to the farm and 4 young lads where ratting around the barns and jack Russell's were running about with rats in the mouths :) the farmer came out with a couple of friends and they where fascinated with the birds and stood and watched as we set off into the fields Eve chassed a couple but missed then she had a great flight turn the rabbit 3 times in the middle of the field and nailed it with a squeal as it got to the hedge. A massive cheer came from the farm yard, we didn't realise we had an audience.  When I got there Eve had let go. We struggled to get another after that, we had about 20 good long flight but with there being no wind the rabbits just dodged Eve at the last moment. We managed to get one on the last field before we reached the car. As we got close to the car a badger was blocking our path, we walked towards it thinking it would run off. I realised I didn't have hold of Eve so I took the lamp off the badger and took hold of her jesses. When I put the lamp back on the badger was running at me and was now 2 meters from my ankles I jumped and screamed out and luckily it turned and ran off. I got the p--s taken out of me from Phil and Chad on the drive home lol

Rabbit 23 (Lamp 23 Day 0) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0)

Sun 26th Oct 2014

Her weight was 2lb 4 3/4oz. Went to Nixon's with V and Phil. Dry but windy. Put Eve on the spade, the Jill ferret down the hole and stood back. The ferret came out and to my horror Eve nailed it. I managed with Phil's help to get Eve off it but then the distressed ferret sunk its teeth into my finger and wouldn't let go, I screamed out as the ferret bit harder and harder. Finally after 2 mins it let go. I had to fly Eve off the glove and use a young hob after that. It bolted 3 rabbits and Eve caught them with ease after good long flights. She was in yarak and like a psychopath. I put Eve away after that and tried the 2 young Jill's we took with Phil's bird. It took them a while to bolt but they did manage to bolt a few and Phil's bird just missed 3 that it chased. The Jill was fine. My fault it happened, I should have kept hold of her for a couple of bolts just to remind her what the ferret is for

Wed 29th Oct 2014

Her weight was 2lb 41/4 oz. Vanessa dropped me off at Tomas's and I walked home. Very windy, lots of leaves blowing about. Didn't see many rabbits, Eve caught 2 then as she flew at a rabbit a woodcock got up right in front of her. It was more like a head on collision but Eve caught it.

Rabbit 28 (Lamp 25 Day 3) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0) Woodcock 1

Fri 31st Oct 2014

Her weight was 2lb 4 oz. Went to the bumpy road with phil, very strong winds. Eve caught 2 but we didn't see much, the cover is still very high. Went to Carform and gave Phil's HH a try. She had a few flights but the wind was a hindrance. The sky turned black as a storm approached so I got Eve out again and Phil and I split up. The 2nd flight Eve had she caught, I fed her up as we headed back to the car and it pour down

Rabbit 32 (Lamp 29 Day 3) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0) Woodcock 1

Mon 3rd Nov 2014 Scotland Stalking

Stalked all day, dry and still. We saw one in the morning but it was too far to shoot and two ran in front of the car as we drove through in the afternoon. A lot of work is going on in the forest with felling and laying a new road for a wind farm.

Her weight was 2lb 4 3/4 oz.  Paul dropped me off at Sheila's with my lamp just before dark and I walked back to the cottage. Another bright night with no wind. Eve went for a hare but gave up when the hare turn to face her and stood up on its back legs, It was a big bugger. She then caught a woodcock in the marsh grass at the side of the pond. As we reached the lower fields I started to lamp. Eve had 6 long flights over 100 yards but with out success. Eve caught one on the field behind our cottage.

Rabbit 36 (Lamp 33 Day 3) Pheasant 0 (Cock 0 Hen 0) Woodcock 2 Mallard 1

Wed 5th Nov 2014 Scotland Stalking

No wind again and sunny. Got a roe deer as we came to the end of the morning stalk. Then in the afternoon we did a massive stalk up a ride with a stream running through it to cover our noise. We got to the end of the ride at last light and I spotted a roe out in the fields with my binoculars as Paul set up the tripod I steamed up my binoculars breathing on them and lost the roe. I then spotted 2 red hinds 200yards away and we shot them. Spent all night dragging the beast back down the ride we ended up cutting them in half and dragging the pieces 100 yards at a time we were glad for the clear sky and full moon. I drove home that night got in bed at 3am

Thu 6th Nov 2014

Her weight was 2lb 4 3/4 oz.  Cheshire falconry club Field meet at Arley Hall. Dry to start but windy, showers around dinner time. Eve was doing her usual trick of letting the other birds ambush the pheasants and then following the ones that escape to another wood 300 yards away. This happened 5 times the 4th time I found her on a cock pheasant. We then headed back to the cars for dinner. After dinner Eve completely switched off, I don't know if fatigue had kicked in because I have flown her hard all this week? Called it a day

Rabbit 36 (Lamp 33 Day 3) Pheasant 1 (Cock 1 Hen 0) Woodcock 2 Mallard 1

Sun 9th Nov 2014

Her weight was 2lb 4 1/2 oz.  Went to Richards with Phil and Vanessa. Slight wind and dry. Got there and realised I had left the spade and ferret locators at home in my garage and had to drive back for them, 1hour 40mins round trip :( We worked 10 warrens flying Eve off the glove. At each one I dug at least 2 holes (6 at one warren) trying to get to a caught rabbit, when I broke through the rabbit and ferret had moved. We spent around 30 mins at each warren. The rabbits just wouldn't bolt, we dug up 2 all day and only bolted 3, two of them ran down the hedge and into another warren. The one that did bolt properly was caught by Eve after Phil's turned it. I got hold of Eve as Phil sorted out the rabbit and the dozy sod let it go :) It was one of those days!

Sat 27th Dec 2014

Her weight was 2lb 5 1/4oz.  Went ferreting to the Triangle with Vanessa. Frosty sunny morning with no wind. We did the two open warrens first and bolted two rabbits from each. Eve caught the first ones and as I did the trade off the 2nd rabbits bolted to safety. Then we did the hedgerow warrens. Apart from digging a rabbit up that the ferret had cornered we didn't see another rabbit for the rest of the day. The warrens must have been done the day before as there were fresh backfilled holes and we found a couple of left nets :(

The first one, Eve caught it in the middle of the field right in front of the farmer, he was checking his sheep :) Then as we ferreted a pheasant landed in the next field, a shoot had disturbed it. Eve took off and caught it near the pond. We bolted another 6 rabbits and dug 2 before Eve caught again. The rabbits wouldn't bolt out into the fields. Fed the birds up and called it a day.
